    Preparing for assessment

This term I am undertaking Camera 4 at the Centre for Creative Photography (Link – to  fabulous place to study photography!!) Once again I am challenged to produce a series of images.  This time I am playing with the randomness of double exposing my Holga 120N in a variety of settings and using a variety of techniques. These images are my current shortlisted black and white choices.  Considering going with these in a black frame. Love to know what you think!

    Seeing Part II

As part of my Camera 3 assessment (studying at the Centre for Creative Photography) I produced a new series based on the Uluru and Sydney Harbour Bridge images included in this set.  I deliberately played with the focal point, the figure/ground relationships, to create a unique (photographer’s) point of view … My Artist Statement:   seeing   we all see we all look   do we all see the same things in the same way?   anton chekhov said, ‘i have the feeling that i have seen everything, but failed to notice the elephants’   my photographic development is about seeing the elephants seeing the angle, the pattern, the juxtaposition, the moment watching light dance, change, reflect, highlight exploring ways and views stretching my technical and artistic skills   stephanie mills tells us that seeing is a gift that comes with practice   i have certainly practiced this term, refined my seeing, changed my perspectives shot, reshot and shot again   this series represents 14 moments captured in south australia, in march 2103   14 moments in iconic adelaide and surrounding places 14 moments where my photographer’s eye saw something unique, something others did not 14 moments where the main focus was less relevant than the colour or light or angle or aspect or object i framed 14 moments that the ‘where’ is there but not the focus   14 moments henry david thoreau would say illustrate his well known quote: it’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see   karen cornelius 26 march 2013

    Self Portrait

Many thanks to Alma Haser for the inspiration for this copy shot for my Camera 3 assessment at the Centre for Creative Photography. Our task was to select and copy a self portrait.  I started with all sorts of ideas, but fell in love with this Alma Haser image!!
